Brazil's bid to win the 2014 world cup was hit by a major setback when their most coveted and valuable attacker of the tournament, Neymar, was carried off the field during their quarterfinal match against Columbia. The injury he sustained from a challenge from Zuniga led to the 22 year old Brazilian forward cracking his vertebra. Although he was initially feared to have been paralyzed from the tackle, it is confirmed that he will make a full recovery.
Although the player could be heard crying that he could not feel his legs, the damage was not as bad. According to the team doctor, the injury was only a transverse fracture on his left side third lumbar vertebra, and it is not expected to cause any future problems. Due to the injury, he was picked on Saturday by a helicopter from the Brazil’s training facility and taken home where he is expected to recover fully.
Despite the Selecao’s number 10 missing the rest of the tournament, his interview with the press carried a lot of hope and confidence for the team. In an interview that left many in tears, Neymar believes that his teammates will still go ahead and make him proud by accomplishing his dream of winning the world cup.
With Neymar out of the squad, everybody expects the likes of Willian and Oscar to lead the team to the 2014’s world cup victory. Whether this dream will live or not is only two matches away as the whole world wishes Neymar a quick recovery.
